The Draghi government redesigns the geography of Italian diplomacy indicating for the first time a woman as representative in the United States. The choice has been agreed between the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luigi di Maio: Mariangela Zappia, 61 years old, will be the new ambassador in Washington, a key role for our relations in the Atlantic Alliance and a recognition of the work done by the diplomat in a delicate moment for the United Nations.

Already the first Italian woman ambassador to NATO in 2014, in 2018 she becomes the first in 70 years to represent Italy at the United Nations. Since 1983 in the diplomatic career, she has also been diplomatic advisor with three Prime Ministers, Matteo Renzi, Paolo Gentiloni and Giuseppe Conte.
